Jamaica

Our first stop on the cruise was Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It was a very lush island with a lot of foliage and mountains. The beaches looked great but we decided to play in the trees during our visit. See the pictures to the right for an explanation.

This is Kelly standing at the end of the dock in Ocho Rios. When we got off the ship, we met our excursion company here. They whisked us away to our various destinations and brought us back with plenty of time to spare.
Here is another picture from the dock of the surrounding bay.
We decided to do 'The Original Canopy Tour' while we were in Jamica. We drove for about an hour through some very primitive parts of the island. We traversed roads that weren't wide enough for one vehicle let alone our bus meeting another car but somehow both vehicles fit.
Our destination was the top of a mountain where we were harnessed up and attached to thin cables strung through the canopies of the trees. Here is a shot of those trees and Kelly walking down the trail to our first run.
This is a picture of Tim zipping along the lines.

Here you can see Kelly along with the rest of our group waiting to be hooked to the next run.
You might have thought that most of these runs would basically be horizontal throughout the trees. We thought so too, but that wasn't the case. This is Kelly going down a line that is nothing close to being horizontal.
Here is Kelly dropping down a completely vertical line after taking that willing step off the platform. The guys down below will pull on the ropes to stop the freefall. Oh, and you had to keep you legs open or risk rope burn. Ouch!
After we finished zipping through the trees, we walked through the woods along this roaring stream.
We also walked through this part of the forest where this very old bamboo patch was.
After all of the fun in the jungle, we headed back to our dock and did some shopping. Here is one of the shopping areas that was close by.
Here are Kelly, Albanie and Tim on the dock looking out over the water in Jamaica. That is our ship in the background. Each time the ship stopped, there were painters that would hang from the side of the ship and repaint the areas that had been scratched by the anchor. Just a fun factoid for anyone that made it to the bottom of the page.
